What you can do

You can join or organize a protest. Some protests may be mentioned here.

If you are a Canadian you can write to your MP, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and ask them why the government, or their party, has not done more to have Khadr transferred from US to Canadian custody. You might want to ask them what their stance is on child soldiers and why Khadr is not receiving the protection that child soldiers are entitled to. You may also wish to mention that your vote next election will depend on how they respond to Khadr’s situation.

If you are an American you can write to US Attorney General Michael Mukasey requesting that Khadr be tried in a civilian court or returned to Canada. You can also remind Mr. Mukasey that the military commission procedures fall far short of international standards for fair trials and violate several treaties which the US is party to.

General letter writing tips from Amnesty Canada can be found here. Tips specific to Khadr’s situation can be found here.

You can tell your friends and family about Khadr’s situation and this website.

You can join our Flickr tag group.

Finally, you can donate money to organizations that are working to increase global respect for human rights and the treatment of children in war, such as Amnesty International, Human Rights FirstHuman Rights Watch, or WarChild.
